I could write about every single part of Vivid but I reckon it would get confusing to go into too much detail. You get a good idea of what to expect from the tour anyway, so that’s a good guide for you. But here’s some of the details of what you find once you’re inside this award winning site. Right. Where to start?

Well, at the moment they are running a big promotion on the ‘celebrity sex tapes’ and these are featured on the home page. How celeb a celeb is, is clearly a matter for debate as I only recognized the names of one or two of them here and one of the tapes I’d seen before on every other celeb site. But I’m not belittling, just explaining what the current fuss is all about. Head to the Vivid Features area though and you’ll get a sub-menu of attractions. There were over 5,000 movies here in total, divided up into various areas: Movies for the standard hardcore, the Celebs, the Parodies, Classics and Alternative girls and then things from Vivid TV – as they have their own online TV channel that you can watch on TV, though you will have to find it on cable and subscribe.

The general movies are reasonable quality most of the time and give you hundreds of top names in adult entertainment to check out in solos, duos and group scenes. When I was at the site they were featuring some episodes from Vivid TV, exclusive scenes from the channel being made available to members of the site. They were fun, with high production values and were good to see. You’ve got something like 1,284 movies in this first section of the ‘features’ guide and these are streaming only. That’s a bit of a downer, you can’t take the movies. You click a sample shot and you think you’ve been returned to the same page with no movie result. But look at the top of the page and the featured movie will have been replaced.

Here you have the stream with a description beside it. There are four choices of resolution for streaming up to 1,920 x 1,080. The player will go to full screen and you can adjust the sound. There is also a slider of moments from the movie beneath the screen which you can use to jump directly to certain parts. I’d advise being on a fast connection to use these streams; mine is a reasonable speed but I did have some start-and-stop even down at 540p; you will also need to make sure you have the relevant player installed, these are embedded movies.

All the movies work min the same way and you’ve got those parodies to have fun with – famous stories and movies are made fun of with the hardcore put back in in a kind of movie that’s becoming more popular these days. X-Men, Avengers, Wonder Woman, Spiderman, all your comic book heroes get a look in and some nookie in these well-made parodies. You have also got the Alt babes and the classic Vivid movies from the past to check out. There is a nice number for the content count but I did find the playing of the movies a bit restricted and would have liked downloads.

Key Features / Navigation

You might pick up on the fact that I wasn’t too happy about the way you get your movies here, I found the pages were more to do with advertising other scenes than giving you a good viewing page with rates, comment and other neat little extras that I like to see. You can go full screen with the videos and that’s fine, but there’s not much around them in terms of interactivity, so it feels more like a list of scenes than anything else. Basically, I’d have liked a more traditional viewing page.

But everything worked and there are no technical issues and that is only a personal preference. I liked the descriptions and the way the site is set out too. It’s easy enough to navigate, the top menu takes you to drop-down sub-menus that then lead you to all the relevant areas. You have a model index with over 840 stars to check out though here again the info is basic. In fact, the models I looked at didn’t have any info, simply links to their video content.

The top menu also lists Video Cams but every time I clicked on this it opened a new window with the same page as I was on, so that needs attention. You have a link into Vivid News for company headlines and some background, and then an area of Bonus content. Well, three bonus areas really and these are lists of category headings which, when clicked bring you hundreds of non-exclusive videos.

Remember to check out the discounts on the sign up page, you’ve got some good deals here but be aware that the trial membership may only give you limited access. Also, be wary of any pre-checked cross sale on the join page which will sign you up to another membership at the same time. But do take advantage of the longer-term discounted memberships as you’re going to want to be here for a long time in order to see all the content.

Overall Conclusion

I had some ups and download with Vivid. For a site that’s won so many awards I would have expected easier to view videos in their own pages and with some download options. I found the streams often stuck and the quality was not always wonderful. But there is a lot here and they are certainly very inventive when it comes to TV shows and parodies. It’s mainly vid content with some photos and loads of bonuses, but it’s certainly value for money with our discounted memberships.
